WELCOME
VICTORIAN BUSH FIRE APPEAL
Thank you to everyone who has got behind the Victorian Bush Fire Appeal
via State Swim or other associations. We raised in total $9221.20, it’s
amazing what you can achieve when the challenge is upon us, well done
to everyone involved. $1215.20 was donated through our various tins,
ice cream containers and even an old ‘fireman’s’ helmet on the receptions
desks at each swimming school. State Swim itself, donated the
remaining $8006.
Funds raised will be used to provide assistance to individuals and
communities in towns and suburbs affected by the 2009 Victorian bushfires.
An independent panel made up of community leaders will oversee the
Appeal Funds operation.
Please note: Red Cross will not deduct any costs from public donations
to cover Appeal costs. All interest earned on donations will be invested
back into the Appeal.

HEALTH AND SPORT NEWS
Now that school is well and truly back, we will be extremely busy making sure
State Swim children are the best prepared at school carnivals. Therefore we
will keep on pursuing the best possible technique and continue to challenge
swimmers at all levels.
Get ready for the next Super Swim on Thursday 26th March, 6 to 7-7.30pm
All Team Gold, Silver, Bronze and 400 Gold members are encouraged to attend.
Its School carnival time and I’m sure all of your coaches will be very proud of
you so let them know how you went. If you have not had your carnival yet then
now is the time for some extra training. Don’t forget to ask your coach for some
pointers on racing to help you achieve your best.
The Jetty to Jetty swim is on again and it is on the 8th March at Coogee beach.
You can enter into the 750m swim or if you are up for the challenge, you can
enter into the 1500m swim. Good luck to all who compete and let us know
how you went.
Melville Aquatic Centre is hosting a carnival on Sunday the 22nd of March.
To enter into this event you don't need to be in a club it is all about having fun.
We recommend that if you want to participate in the carnival that you should
be in 400 Gold or higher. For more information please feel free to talk to
Andy or Luke.

You choose the amount and the recipient can choose the product or service
available at State Swim. For instance Gift Vouchers can be used for
swimming lessons, Lap Swimming Pass or Swim Shop items.
They are also a great idea from people living interstate. They can purchase
them over the phone with credit card and we can post it back to the address
of their choice.
ROTTNEST CHANNEL SWIM
Congratulations to Murray Grant (father of Lewis, Bevan and Ellis)
who competed in the 2009 Rottnest Channel Swim. Murray was in a
team of 4 and completed the swim in 6hours and 34minutes.
Overall they finished 27 out of 103 for their age group.
What an inspiration to his sons and all of us!
